A recent story about a man who broke up with ‘perfect’ girlfriend but ruined his life in the process has left TikTok users in shock.

The story, which was originally picked up from Reddit‘s ‘Today I F**ked Up’ thread, has gone viral on TikTok. Many users are calling it ‘boy math’ while others are surprised at the OP’s (original poster) thought process in the whole situation. Some users are glad that the OP and his girlfriend parted ways because they think she deserved way better than what she got in her relationship with him.

Man doesn’t want to get married to GF of six years

Our OP is a 34-year-old man who thinks he is in his prime and does not want to be tied down by marriage. In a three-part story on TikTok, he explains that he and his ex-girlfriend of six years met when they were both working at a restaurant as college students. His ex, Kelly, was a hard worker and had dreams of becoming a veterinarian and opening her own practice one day. He called Kelly “wicked smart, incredibly organized.”

The OP notes that he was pursuing Computer Science in college but was directionless until he met Kelly. She encouraged him to dream bigger and make a career out of his hobbies. It led him to change his major to graphic design. The two graduate and find high-paying jobs in their careers. The OP notes that they moved in soon after and had been living together for two years when he lost the relationship.

Five years into their relationship, Kelly brought up the topic of marriage and asked if that was a “possibility” in their future. He said it was and liked the fact that she used the word “possibility” as opposed to pressuring him. However, the more he thought about the topic, the more it made him uncomfortable. He notes that he felt he was only 34 and did not want to give up his freedom by getting married. He also realizes that because he is still very “handsome,” he does not want to give up his chances of being with other women. The idea of being intimate with a single person for the rest of his life seemed very scary to him.

‘TIFU by breaking up with my ‘perfect’ girlfriend’ story continues

The OP decides to come clean to Kelly about his feelings on marriage. However, he ends up picking the worst moment to do it. He spills it out during their sixth-anniversary dinner. He notes how Kelly made reservations at a nice restaurant that evening and looked gorgeous. However, he has a little too much to drink and ends up spilling his feelings out to her.

He tells the internet how their relationship was perfect and that their intimate life had a lot of spark despite being together for six years. However, he still cannot shake the desire to “experience” other women. He tells Kelly during the dinner that he is not ready for marriage and won’t be anytime soon. The OP says that Kelly asked him why he wasn’t ready in a quiet tone.

He says that he could not express himself correctly because he was a bit too intoxicated and ended up talking about his desire to be with other women way too much. He tells her that even though he loves her, he misses his single life.

At this Kelly quietly puts some cash on the table and leaves. She says if this is what OP wants she wouldn’t stand in his way before leaving the restaurant. He feels hurt about how she abandoned him in the middle of dinner. He calls an Uber home and sleeps it off while Kelly spends the night at a hotel. The OP thinks the otherwise level-headed Kelly is being overdramatic.

The next morning sends him a lengthy text saying she appreciated his honesty and that he had ripped her heart out last night. She said notes how her self-esteem took a hit after he compared her to others. She tells him she will be moving out but is willing to pay rent for the rest of the year for the place they leased together.

The OP notes he went through a range of emotions that afternoon. From begging her to think clearly and come back to insulting her and saying he would “new chick with better body than hers.”

OP is excited to try out Tinder after break up but reality hits

In the early days of his breakup, the OP made a Tinder account. He says he was “horny and excited” to see what kind of girls he can get. He uploads attractive photos of himself but barely gets any matches. The OP notes that in his first month of being on the dating app, he only got five matches. “It was giving my self-esteem hell,” he says. Three months into the breakup he gets very desperate one night and calls an “unattractive” Tinder date home, forcing himself to hook up with her.

He says he called out Kelly’s name in the middle of it and began crying which freaked his Tinder date out. In the next three months, he hooked up with another “unattractive” girl. When his single life does not seem as appealing he stalks Kelly on Instagram one day. He sees that she accomplished her dream of opening her own veterinary practice. “She looked even more beautiful than ever in her recent posts,” the OP notes. He cried himself to sleep once again after stalking his ex’s socials.

The next day he texted her he sent some texts to her and realized she had blocked him. The then left a long crying voicemail begging her to take him back. But Kelly never contacted him again. The OP is now at the risk of losing his job as he isn’t showing up to the office.

He has found himself driving by Kelly’s animal hospital just to get a glimpse of her. The OP has a warning for all the men who are in the same spot as him. “If she’s a keeper, f**king keep her,” he tells them.

TikTok users weigh in

“I’m actually afraid for Kelly,” one user said after OP confessed to stalking her.

“How is she being dramatic when you literally said “I want to be with other women”?????” another user angrily questions.

“Boy math is thinking they can stay together AND he can satiate his urge for other women,” said a third commenter.

“I’m a good-looking guy. well apparently not many women think so,” another person said about OP’s comments about his looks.
