Less than 15 years ago, a kid was killed by his brother because they watched pro wrestling. It made international news. So if WWE wants to make their product more appropriate for children, they might as well completely get rid of wrestling.
The only reason the ratings are up right now is because many kids are watching pro wrestling now, and the older groups still watch it because they're PRAYING for the attitude era, or something like it, to come back. But even kids these days would rather watch something edgy and crude, like family guy, south park, or one of those dumb reality shows on mtv/vh1.
Cena's promos are mediocre compared to Austin's, Hogan's, the Rock's, etc. The only reason Orton is a good heel is because he's the edgiest character on Raw, kicking the boss in the head and such. Ten years ago, Orton would be mediocre unless he cussed and did more obnoxious actions than just beating people up. The whole Mike Knox "bully" angle is stupid, and is meant for kids. The majority of kids have been bullyed, and it's meant as an angle to put everyone behind reyrey. THE KIDS ARE ALREADY BEHIND HIM DAMNIT!
Yes, it's all about the wrestling not the drama. But the drama is what really gets people to watch. To see what the competitors say and to see who is going to win. Right now, what the competitors say has become extremely bland and almost unbelievable because no one "snaps" anymore and says a crude/curse word, or causes someone to bleed. The closest thing we have to a violent interaction anymore is Orton's head punt, which would be much cooler if he booted somebody's head into a barbwire wrapped chair.
WHAT HAPPENED TO HARDCORE MATCHES!? WWE never has them anymore! Just these stupid "no holds barred" matches where the wrestlers are allowed to use weapons, but hardly do at all! Hell, WWE even banned some moves that are unsafe. Thats what wrestling is about! Guys beating the crap out of eachother, and often putting their own bodies in jeopardy to win!
I agree with PlaytheGame. WWE has gone too far with this whole PG thing. They're about to lose half their audience (the older than 15 crowd) to some other promotion, or lose that portion to wrestling period. WWE overcooked RAW and let it rot. It's time to buy some new meat. Give the adults something to watch and enjoy, not just the kids.
